Philip Keller was a shepherd and he
wrote a wonderful book called “A Shepherd looks at Psalm 23”, it is a classic
today.
He wrote that Sheep do not 'just take care of themselves' as some might suppose. They
require more than any other class of livestock, endless attention and
meticulous care. It is no accident that God has chosen to call us
sheep. The behavior of sheep and human beings is similar in many
ways.
An interesting fact he brought up
was that it is almost impossible for sheep to line down unless four
requirements are met: free of all fear, free from friction with other sheep,
free of pests, and free of hunger. Only the Shepherd can provide release
from these anxieties. It is he who makes it possible for the sheep to lie
down, rest, relax and flourish.
A flock that is restless and
discontented never does well. The same is true of people. In the
Christians life there is no substitute for the awareness that the Shepherd is
nearby. There is nothing like Christ's presence to dispel the fear, the
panic, and the terror of the unknown. The idea of a sound mind is
that of a mind at ease, at peace not perturbed or harassed or obsessed with
fear. Remember Christ's words: I am with you ALWAYS! Matthew 28:20
amen..in the hands of Our Shepherd we will never gone astray..thanks for the new knowledge.
ReplyDelete...Why is it...that when one of his sheep is in despair...he sees and knows there despair...he leaves them alone and scared...I don't understand...were told to cry out!! Please my shepherd help me!! Have pitty on me...
ReplyDeleteOh my dear friend Irma, Our Great Shepherd the Lord Jesus Christ does not leave His sheep alone and scared...Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,
DeleteYes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' David in the Psalms consistently shows us how God bends His ear down to hear our cries... David cried out in Psalms 42 and was depressed but we see in Psalms 43 how God was there and helped to bring him out of his depression. Psalm 43:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. I am so sorry you feel alone my dear friend, but please know that God is with you, He does hear your cries, and He is working behind the scenes for your good even if you don't see it. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- Our prayers are with you dear friend
