What we do, must be done from an inward principle, that we may glorify God, NOT that we may be praised of men. This all seems easy, right. But, how many times do we seek man's praise or approval? As A.W. Tozer said 'We say we want God to have all the glory, but then we also want a little side commission for all the work we do for Him'.
If our motive is to get the praise of men, then like the Pharisees, we will call attention to what we are doing. But if our motive is to serve God in love and please Him, then we will do our acts of kindness without calling attention to them. As a result, God will be glorified; and others will be helped.
The point is NOT that we should hold back from doing good, but that we should guard our motives behind what we do. It is the glory and praise of God that really counts!
Seek God's eternal rewards rather than man's temporary rewards!
