Welcome to Empowered Bible Studies

Bible study is essential to our Christian walk. As we study God's Word, our personal relationship with God grows deeper and deeper. It empowers us to live for the Lord in every aspect of our lives. This is what has inspired me to do an online Bible study.

Many years ago my husband introduced me to a commentary on the book of Colossians and I was so blessed as the Scripture came to life before my very eyes. Since that day we have developed an extensive library and enjoy studying God's Word.

I have prepared some Bible studies that I would like to share with you. My prayer is that they will bless you as much as they have blessed me in preparing them. I pray your life is touched and that it would inspire you to live every moment of every day for Christ.

Serving as an Overseer

Ok, back to our Bible study on 1 Peter 5 ... As a recap we saw in our previous post that In order for a Pastor to shepherd the flock he needs to be personally walking with God and growing in his spiritual walk. If a pastor is growing spiritually, it will affect the flock around him. We grow by being in the Word of God, walking daily with God and obeying what the scripture says.

Now, Peter goes on to say "serving as an overseer" in verse two. Christ is the Head of the Church - He is our Shepherd. So the flock that the Pastor leads or oversees is not his flock it belongs to God. A Pastor is not to just preach the Word of God once a week, God has set him in a position to lead, nurture, and protect God's people and he will be held accountable with what God has entrusted to him. You get a picture of the Shepherd, who watches and knows each one of his sheep, and when one strays away you see that shepherd going after him to bring him back to the flock. If one needs discipline he has to discipline it and If it has a special need that shepherd might even need to carry it to safety.
But we do not get off the hook my friend; we will also give an account for the lives we lead with what God has entrusted to us. Be a living example to those around you so that they may also follow in Christ's steps.
