Listen to what Peter says in 1 Peter 3:15 "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear". The Greek word for defense is apologia ἀπξλξγία; This is where we get the word Apologetics, which is the branch of theology that deals with the Defense of the Gospel.
We need to be in the Word of God to be able to know what scripture says – Why is it so important to be able to defend the gospel - Scripture tells us we are to be ready to give a defense. It is an opportunity to lead the unsaved to the Lord!
There is so much evidence that supports the Bible.
I like Acronyms because it helps me remember things. The acronym ―MAPS is a great acronym for apologetics:
Acronym: MAPS
M – Manuscripts (Manuscript Evidence – The bible has more manuscripts found than any other book in the world)
A – Archeology (Proves everything that happened in the Bible)
P – Prophesy (See how much prophesy has been fulfilled in the Bible – we have all seen prophesy fulfilled – ie. 1948 Israel became a nation)
S – Statistical probability (this leads into the prophesy of the P - the Probability of all the prophesies being fulfilled statistically is like 1/trillion in other words unheard of)
My friend, we need to be equipped. Notice further in verse fifteen that Peter also instructs us how to give this defense; we will cover this in our next post. Until then, have a blessed day
