Peter is exhorting us, in these end times, to be serious and watchful in our prayers: 1 Peter 4:7
When we are serious we keep our self desires under control and keep our focus on God, living according to God's will and not our own. As the time draws nearer for Christ's return, not only are we to be serious, but we are to be watchful in our prayers. The word watch carries with it the idea of alertness. This admonition had special meaning to Peter because he went to sleep when he should have been “watching unto prayer” as we see in Mark 14:37-40 ~ Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him.
My friend, when the Lord returns, will He find us sleeping or watching for His return? Take the Apostle Peter's exhortation to heart and be serious and watchful in prayer for these are the End Times! Let your life be glorifying to God and not man!
