That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God ~ Colossians 1:10
The word “walk” is frequently used in Scripture to describe the outward, or visible, expression of our Christian life. It emphasizes progressing in conduct by taking one step at a time. The Christian life is not passive, when we walk worthy of the Lord our lives will manifest Christ's love through us attracting others to our Lord Jesus Christ rather than repel them. How sad it is to occasionally hear an unbeliever say, “If that person is a Christian, I do not want to be one.”
We need to be a light in a dark world. As Paul prayed for the Colossians and their walk, or way of life, he did not pray that it might be pleasing to man, but to God. Our lives should manifest spiritual fruit that others would want to have a taste of it, not spit it out. Living worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him!
The verse goes on to say 'increasing in the knowledge of God'. We need to make sure that our Christian walk is progressing and in order to do that, we need to be in God's word ~ increasing our knowledge of God ~ as we draw closer to our Lord.
