Words have a lot of power. What comes out of our soul, whether we pen them in writing or say them out loud can have a lasting effect on those around us.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:29 'Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.'
Think about that, your words can impart grace to those around you. God can work through our words to help others and bring his grace to them. You can be a light to person who is struggling, giving an encouraging word to build them up. You can build self-esteem instead of tearing a person down simply by the words we speak.
Paul also tells us to not let any corrupt word proceed out of our mouth; for example gossip only hurts people - it has no place coming out of our mouths and we should not listen to gossip either.
It says in James 3:8 'But no man can tame the tongue' ... My friend it is only with God's help that we can tame our tongue. Ask God each day to show you those who are hurting and need an encouraging word, to make your words edifying to those around you.
