Blessings have been restored to Naomi and Ruth. We see the women of Bethlehem who had witnessed Naomi's emptiness when she returned to Bethlehem back in Ruth chapter one are now praising God that Naomi has received a kinsman-redeemer.
Ruth 4:14-17 shows how this God-given child, Obed was a blessing. Notice the words the women said: "Blessed be the Lord". Their praise was not to Boaz and Ruth, but to the Lord Himself because they knew it was the Lord who had given the child as a kinsman-redeemer to Naomi and the future descendants of the family.
Look at verse 15 it says, the child was to be a "restorer of life" to Naomi; he was to renew and sustain her in her old age. Naomi came back to Bethlehem feeling empty and now the Lord has redeemed her and blessed her with a grandson who would one day inherit the family land and keep her family’s name going.
We have seen the providence of God working in the lives of this family throughout the book of Ruth. Now we see the most wonderful thing that happened to Boaz and Ruth and their son, Obed: they were appointed by God to be a part of the chosen line of King David. This meant that they were the ancestors of the Promised Seed and Savior, the Messiah and Redeemer of the world Jesus.
My friend, God continually works behind the scenes in our lives also. Just as God gave Obed to be a restorer of life, God has given his only son, Jesus Christ to be the restorer of our life, to redeem us.
