Peter encourages us in our faith to be secure in our salvation knowing that God is there always to take care of us. He calls us the elect. At one time only the nation of Israel could claim to be God's chosen people, but now, not by chance or human design, but by God's sovereign will, Jew and Gentile are known as God's elect.
Let's look at 1 Peter 1:2 "elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
What an expressive verse! All three members of the Trinity are mentioned here, and all three members of the Trinity work to bring about our salvation.
The Father chose us before we chose him. (Ephesians 1:4) “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love”
Jesus Christ, the Son, died for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:6-10) “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
The Holy Spirit brings us the benefits of salvation and sets us apart (makes us holy, sanctifies us) for God’s service. (2 Thessalonians 2:13) “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,”
What an awesome God we have! Peter is encouraging us to stand firm, that our salvation and security rest in the almighty God; no trials or persecutions can take away the eternal life He gives to those who believe in Him.
No matter how ridiculed, abused, and persecuted; no matter how poor, hungry, troubled, and distressed; no matter how great the hardship, God will meet the need of the dear believer, the one whom He has elected to be His own.
Welcome to Empowered Bible Studies
Bible study is essential to our Christian walk. As we study God's Word, our personal relationship with God grows deeper and deeper. It empowers us to live for the Lord in every aspect of our lives. This is what has inspired me to do an online Bible study.
Many years ago my husband introduced me to a commentary on the book of Colossians and I was so blessed as the Scripture came to life before my very eyes. Since that day we have developed an extensive library and enjoy studying God's Word.
I have prepared some Bible studies that I would like to share with you. My prayer is that they will bless you as much as they have blessed me in preparing them. I pray your life is touched and that it would inspire you to live every moment of every day for Christ.
