In Psalm 90:12 it says: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”. There is an important reminder in this Scripture that life is very short. Our days are numbered; our lives are limited; Life passes extremely fast. The Bible says that a person’s life is like a breath or vapor.Psalm 39:4-6 says: “Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. Indeed, the number of my days is small like the size of a hand. And my age is as nothing before You. Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.”
The Bible also says that life is like a shadow which only temporarily appears. In Psalms 23 David says: "I walk in the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;"
This can be very sobering, but one thing we are sure of is, except for those that will be Raptured, death is a 'sure' thing for all of us. As Christians, we do not have to fear death as Jesus Christ has taken the sting out of death. Remember where David said he walked in the 'shadow' of death? There has to be 'light' in order to have a shadow. Jesus is our light and "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).
Realizing that life is short can inspire us to be more dedicated to the Lord.
