Let's look at what Peter says will happen as we separate ourselves in 1 Peter 4:4-5: "In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead." As we grow in our Christian life, we don't do all the things we did as an unbeliever and those we hung around with don't always understand the change in our spirit, the scripture here says they think it strange that you do not run with them. Because they don't understand they often begin to speak evil of us, they ridicule, mock, and withdraw from us because we now don't share the same goals. Now not every Christian is from such a drastic background but all of us will experience a transformation in our lives and our lifestyle change can be a witness to our unsaved friends and those who knew us before we were saved. A wonderful opportunity to explain the wonderful transformation Christ has made in your life.
Notice in verse five it also says they shall give an account to Christ for all their ridicule, abuse, and persecution of believers. My friend, Scripture is clear here, The unsaved may judge us, but one day, God will judge them. Instead of arguing with them, we should pray for them, knowing that the final judgment is with God. This is the attitude that Jesus took (1 Peter 2:23), and also the apostle Paul (2 Timothy 2:24-26).
As Christians, Jesus Christ must be Lord of our lives. He gave Himself for us and we must follow His example. Colossians 3:23-24 "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ."
