The scripture here is in the imperative mode meaning that this is a command. My friend, we are commanded to Trust in the Lord with all our heart and not to lean on our own understanding.
There are times in our lives when we simply do not understand why God has allowed a specific adversity in our lives. There are times when we ask "Why?", "Where is God?", "Doesn't He care?” My friend, this is when we need to lean on God's wisdom and not our own as God sees the bigger picture and is in total control.
In verse six, the word direct means to make straight. So it can be translated "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct, or make straight, your paths". Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 7:13 "Consider the work of God; for who can make straight what He has made cooked?" We must keep our focus on God. Only he can make our paths straight, only He can lead us in the way we should go.
I encourage you to write Proverbs 3:5-6 down and carry it with you as a reminder to fully trust God in all the details of your life.
