As we continue in 1 Peter 1:13 Not only should we have a disciplined mind as we saw in our last post, but scripture tells us next that we are to be sober.
1 Peter 1:13 "Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" The Greek word νήφω nēphō means, to be calm and collected in spirit, to be temperate, and well balanced. ―It speaks of the proper exercise of the mind that state of mind in which the individual is self-controlled, and is able to see things without the distortion caused by worry, fear, and their related attitudes. Now we are not to be naïve, we are to be aware of the dangers and pitfalls around us. As a child of God, Satan is just waiting to step in and bring you down; But through it all, we as Christians are to be fully aware of God’s truth. We should not be controlled by the circumstances around us rather we are to remain faithful to the God’s truth. Again, the idea is one of tightly controlled discipline.
This is why it is so important to gird up the loins of our mind, being spiritually disciplined making sure we are making each moment of every day count for Him. Keeping our minds focused on the goal. Watch for those things in your day to day walk that goes against scripture. Don’t allow Satan the victory.
