As we conclude the first spiritual incentive to encourage us to maintain a holy walk, Peter’s exhortation brings us back to the foundation of our faith, the grace that has been given and will be brought to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:13 "Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"
Looking for Christ to return strengthens our faith and hope in difficult days. Knowing that our time here is only for a little while helps endure those times of trials. Peter exhorts us to set our hope perfectly, wholly, and unchangeably, without doubt and despondency upon our future glorification. We know the Lord is going to return and we can live each day to glorify His name.
Christians live in the future tense; their present actions and decisions are governed by this future hope. Outlook determines outcome; attitude determines action. A Christian who is looking for the glory of God has a greater motivation for present obedience than a Christian who ignores the Lord's return.
