How many times do we go through life and leave God out of our decision making?
The name Elimelech means ‘my God is king’ and yet when the famine hit, Elimelech moved his family 50 miles to the heathen land of Moab, and we question why Moab. To refresh our memories, the Moabites were descendants of Lot from his incestuous union with his firstborn daughter (Gen 19:30-38). They were a proud people and were the Jews’ enemies because of the way they treated Israel during their pilgrim journey from Egypt to Canaan. We don’t know why, of all places, he chose Moab other than the fact scripture tells us of the famine in Bethlehem.
With the death of Elimelech in Ruth 1:3, Naomi in her mourning is now faced with raising her sons by herself in a heathen land or take them back to the promised land of Israel.
My friends, when we make decisions based on the circumstances around us, we miss out on what God wants to show us. We can do one of three things when faced with the trials in our own lives; we can endure it, escape it, or embrace it.
If we only endure our trials, then the trials become our master and we have a tendency of becoming hard and bitter. If we try to escape from our trials, running away, then we will probably miss out on the purpose God wants to show us. But if we learn to embrace our trials, they will bring us to the blessings and opportunities of spiritual growth and the purpose that God has ordained for our life.
My dear friends, don’t leave God out of your decision making, embrace the trials that come your way and glean from the blessings God has in store for you.
We will find out the decision Naomi made in our next post. Until then have a blessed day.
