We ended our last post with Boaz winnowing barley at the threshing floor as we saw in Ruth 3:2.
At this point the grain is now ready for use and is a great time for robbers to come steel it; you figure all the work is done. So they have someone lay at the threshing floor to protect the grain until they can get it to its storage area. Naomi knew that Boaz would be at the threshing floor and gives Ruth instructions on what to do before she presents herself to Boaz as we see in verses 3-4: “Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. Then it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies; and you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do."
Notice the fourfold instruction:
1. Wash herself (vs. 3a)
2. Anoint herself (vs. 3b)
3. Change clothes (vs. 3c)
4. Learn proper way to present herself (vs. 3d- 4)
What a great example for us meeting our kinsman-redeemer, Jesus Christ. Over the next few posts we will examine each of these instructions. Until then, have a blessed day.
